Being 1-2 years old saved me from this era

The 2010's was way too cynical in general when it came to gaming, i remember that phase when EVERY game that was previous great supposedly sucked all along. Sa1 and 2? Bad. OoT? Bad. Ff7? Bad. Literally everything was "bad" and we were all just "dumb kids that didn't know any better", such an odd period of time lmao. Sonic just got it the worst of any series thanks to so many factors working against him. Not gunna say games like sa1/2 are perfect but thats not what matters, what matters is they're a ton of fun regardless of all that lol.

SA2 and Sonic 3 are the only Sonic games I ever consider going back and playing because they’re easy to pick up and always fun.

For me the worst part of it was when the Sonic Twitter decided to worship Arin from Game Grumps and constantly include him in everything. It was a big reason that made me stop caring about then-current day Sonic Team, and just stick with the old games that are "supposedly bad".

Something off topic, but related: for some reason, when discussing how good the old games were, Sonic RUclipsrs only tend to show Sonic Adventure and Sonic 2. Even in this video, I saw no footage of S3&K. I think this had some minor part in it. I don't know why Sonic 3 was pushed aside so much by the fandom; though there were always GOOD sonic games, 3&K is the only PERFECT Sonic game. Taking Adventure and S2 as the emblems of the series was a great mistake of the fandom.

Nothing changed specifically for Sonic kids. The entire Western world changed dramatically around 2014 and the following years, which had ripple effects in all areas of the internet. Not only that, but Gen Z came to adolescence around this time, as well, and it seems to me that Zoomers just LOVE themselves some Sonic.

My little speculation is that I think people exploit glitches too especially Game Grumps, I mean like their Sonic 06 playthrough was really famous and it wouldn't surprise me if with every Sonic game they want to milk- I mean capture that same level of popularity. They play the 'worse' versions of everything like SA and I think exploit glitches, and I mean like, come on, seriously, playing the Wii version of Unleashed and labelling the playthrough just as "Sonic Unleashed" as if this is the definitive version over the next Gen Xbox/PS3 version is really horrible. It's like playing Mario Bros on your flipphone cellphone or something and labelling it as just "Super Mario Bros"

I think the safe move would be to remake most of those games to fix most of their short comings and then use the data from that to consider sequels which would give the sequel more of a fighting chance now being the third attempt instead of the second.

I’ve also been around here with friends since we’ve live in Illinois. Decided to play it and thought it was alright, I also played that one Sega racing game that featured Sonic’s first appearance too. (Btw $25 for an entire day at that arcade is a steal)

Sonic deserves to be blasted by the internet for having more bad games than good ones. Firstly few of his games were polished, secondly his fans are insufferable and annoying, and lastly Sonic fans always have to glaze their favorite franchise as if it's the only franchise that exists. They make stupid statements like "Archi Sonic clears Dragon Ball" and when Frontiers came out, everyone acted like Jesus christ made his return to earth. When in reality, it was another unpolished game with bland world and graphics. I'm not really a Sonic hater but I'm gonna be brutally honest. Sonic is an overrated franchise.
